So, what is a Birth Doula?

Doula is a Greek word meaning “woman’s servant”.  It is a woman trained and experienced in childbirth that provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.  She does not perform any clinical tasks.

As your birth doula I will work with you and your partner to make your birthing experience  memorable.  I am professionally trained and experienced in the beautiful, powerful and sometimes overwhelming process of birth. You, your partner and I will work together as a team to ensure that you feel the continuous, unfailing support and encouragement that will bring out the best and strongest you have to offer.

Because I recognize how important the birth of a baby is to a mother, I want to help her have a positive and gratifying experience. I deeply honor and celebrate the role of motherhood/parenthood and see the birthing process as an unmatched miracle.  I seek to help women embrace the experience of pregnancy and delivery as a natural passage rather than a medical condition. I feel fortunate, and it gives me enormous satisfaction, to earn their trust and become a part of their family.

My role as a birth partner is to help my clients have the kind of birth THEY desire.  Working closely together, we will develop a birth plan that fully reflects their individual needs and wishes. I work with the mother and her partner to help familiarize them with the tools and practices at their disposal for a healthy and safe birthing experience. It is my goal to help the birthing mother come to realize her power and beauty. As your birth doula I will help ease your transition to parenthood in every way.
